Local Music Organisations
Below is our directory of local organisations who meet or perform regularly in the villages and strongly encourage everyone to go along and see them in action (see our Events calendar) and possibly even join them! If you feel a bit rusty, you could always take advantage of our directory of local teachers.
Goring and Streatley Starter Band
The Goring and StreatleyStarter Band is the younger sibling of the Goring and Streatley Concert Band for those young in age and/or young at heart who are looking to begin, develop or revisit their experience of playing in an ensemble. The band is a mix of ages from nine upwards with no maximum age
Goring Chamber Choir
Based in Goring-on-Thames, our choir draws members from around South Oxfordshire and Berkshire. They sing all year round, giving concerts in Spring, Autumn and at Christmas. Their repertoire ranges from the Classical through traditional to contemporary music. While their concerts always have familiar and popular pieces, they enjoy exploring new or lesser-known works as it "it keeps our programme fresh"
Goring and Streatley Concert Band
The Goring and Streatley Concert Band is a friendly community band comprising around 40 woodwind, brass and percussion players. Tbey do not audition members however they strive to maintain a high standard. They perform several concerts a year, including formal Spring and Christmas concerts as well as outdoor events and fetes throughout the summer.
The Roy Bailey Big Band
The Roy Bailey Big Band is an established big band based in the village of Goring. They are a 16-piece band made up of keen local musicians in a typical big band line-up of trumpets, trombones, saxes and rhythm who play a broad range of standards and beyond to suit all tastes. Youngsters of at least Grade 6 standard are always welcome if they are interested in giving big band music a go. See their website for full details.
Langtree Sinfonia
Langtree Sinfonia is an amateur orchestra which meets at Langtree School, Woodcote. Many members have either started playing as adults, or have taken up their instruments again, having learned when younger. The orchestra has about 30 registered members, although extra players are co-opted when needed for bigger works. Our Director of Music is Kevin Withell. Concerts are given twice a year – a classical programme in November and a more ambitious romantic event in May or June. Concerts are held at churches in various locations including Wallingford, Henley, Abingdon and Caversham.
